State House Skin Cancer Screening
Wed, March 12
We had a good day at the State House yesterday. Seventy-five people were screened. Two melanomas and 4 basal cell carinomas were uncovered. Seventeen people received recommendations
for a biopsy and twenty-five referrals were made. Kudos to Deb Girard, Trish Signet and the Melanoma Foundation of New England for organizing the screening, Rosalie Adams, Director of
Communications, Office of State Senator Pam Resor for promoting the screening at the State House, as well as Steve Cotto and Elizabeth Davis of Putnam Investments for volunteering to handle the
registration. A special thank you to Dr. Rothman for chairing the event. Thanks also to the following dermatologists for volunteering to participate: Kathy Bowers, MD, Leera Briceno, MD, Marie
France Demierre, MD, Daniel Finn, MD, Karen Rothman, MD and Laura Winterfield, MD. And, a big thank you to Priya Joshi, a medical student whose participation was invaluable to the success of the
event. Check out the news release for more
info.

2nd Annual State House Sun Screening Clinic
An Overwhelming Success!
On Wednesday, March 22, 2006, the Massachusetts Academy of Dermatology and the Massachusetts Melanoma Foundation held its second annual Sun Screening Clinic. One hundred legislators and
staff were seen by MAD members: Drs. Mark Amster, Kathryn Bowers, Marie France Demierre, Gary Rogers, Steve Smith, Val Treloar and her assistant Gail Duggan., Special thanks to Event Chair, Dr. Karen
Rothman. Six melanomas were detected that require follow up!
The screening was hosted by State Senator Pam Resor. This afforded us a wonderful opportunity to not only meet many legislators but also inform them of issues important to dermatology.
